Mean girls- Third world cinema?

Recreating “Mean Girls” Third cinema style from auxeh on Vimeo.

American cult series became a catalyst for our exploration of the third cinema genre. In a similar way to the intention of this cinematic style we were given for our brief this week we felt mean girls was iconic for its liberation of the oppressed, whether this oppression is based on gender, class, race, religion, or ethnicity because of its no holds barred approach to dealing with sociological issues as apparent in this key scene:

When my group was first given this task I believed that third world cinema was simply cinema produced in third world countries. Looking at how films from America had surprisingly similar conventions has really helped me to see the genre in a much more versatile way which could be applied in future to my own works.
